E118 Serious Moderate DIY

Bosch Oven E118 — Temperature Sensor Reading Invalid

Bosch Oven · Error code E118

What E118 Means

The main control can read the sensor circuit but the value is implausible (e.g., changing too fast, or outside normal cooking range). Sister fault to E101 but indicates an intermittent rather than open/shorted sensor.

Symptoms

  • Intermittent shutdowns
  • Bake temps off by 50°F or more
  • Code appears, then clears for hours
  • Oven preheats then aborts

Common Causes

1
Failing sensor element

Resistance jumps under heat.

2
Loose wiring connection

Spade or plug not fully seated; vibration loosens contact.

3
Heat damage to sensor lead

Insulation degraded near broil element area.

4
Main control input drift

Failing A/D reference on the board.

How to Fix It

  1. Power off at the breaker.
  2. Pull the oven and inspect the sensor harness from probe to board for melt or chafe.
  3. Measure PT500 resistance cold (~500 Ω) and at the cooktop with a heat gun — value should rise smoothly.
  4. Reseat both ends of the sensor connector.
  5. Replace the sensor; if E118 persists with a new sensor, replace the main control.
