How we verify our content

The rule

Nothing on this site is presented as verified unless we confirmed it against the manufacturer's own documentation. When we can't confirm something, we say so on the page — "this code is not in the manufacturer's published list" — or we remove the claim entirely. We do not guess from what a code's letters look like they should mean, and we do not copy meanings from other lookup sites.

What counts as a source

We treat as authoritative: manufacturer support pages and error-code lists (for example producthelp.whirlpool.com, samsung.com/us/support, lg.com/us/support, geappliances.com, bosch-home.com), official service documentation and tech sheets, and owner-manual fault tables. Where a code page shows a "Verified against manufacturer documentation" line, the link goes to the exact document we checked.

We do not treat as verification sources: other code-lookup sites, forums, YouTube summaries, or AI-generated answers — including our own drafts. Those can suggest where to look; they never settle what a code means.

The numbers

Of the 1,253 codes on this site today, 1,233 (98%) carry a direct citation to the manufacturer document that confirms them, published on the page and in its structured data. The remainder are marked or hedged accordingly, and the citation count grows with every verification pass.

Corrections — including our own

We audit our own catalog adversarially and publish the consequences. In 2026 verification campaigns we rewrote codes whose meanings were wrong, hedged codes that manufacturers don't document, and deleted more than two dozen codes outright when we concluded they didn't exist for that appliance — including codes that had been imported from a different appliance or brand entirely. Every identifier we've proven fabricated goes onto an automated blocklist that fails our build if it ever tries to come back.

Most sites in this space never delete anything. We'd rather have fewer pages than wrong ones — a wrong meaning sends someone to buy a part they don't need.

Honest recommendations

Product links on this site are affiliate links (Amazon Associates), and they follow the same standard as the content: we only recommend a part when the diagnosis genuinely points to it, codes that don't have a part fix say so, and faults that need a professional — gas, refrigerant, high-voltage — get "call a pro," not a product. We never invent part numbers, and we don't display prices we can't keep current.
