LiftMaster Garage Door Opener 2-3 — Open and close limits not set

LiftMaster Garage Door Opener · Error code 2-3

What 2-3 Means

The travel limits (where the door considers itself fully open and fully closed) have been lost or have never been set. Common after a board replacement or memory clear.

Symptoms

  • Opener will not run at all, or only runs in short bursts
  • Up arrow blinks 2, down arrow blinks 3
  • After replacing logic board or unplugging for service
  • Door does not fully open or close

Common Causes

1
Limits cleared after board swap

New or reset boards ship with no limits stored.

2
Power outage corrupted memory

Brownout or surge wiped saved limits on some models.

3
Reset button accidentally held

Yellow learn button or adjust button pressed long enough to clear settings.

4
Failed limit potentiometer (older models)

Mechanical pot for travel sensing has failed.

How to Fix It

  1. Identify your opener model — newer DC openers use up/down arrow buttons; older AC openers use screw-driver limit screws.
  2. For DC models: press and hold the adjustment up arrow until door reaches desired open position, release; press down arrow until door reaches closed position, release.
  3. Press the yellow learn button briefly to confirm — door will cycle once to verify.
  4. For older AC chain/screw drives: turn open and close limit screws to set travel points per the manual.
  5. Run a full open/close cycle and verify door fully opens and seals at the floor.
  6. Re-test safety reversal with a 1.5-inch block on the floor.
  7. Reprogram remotes if memory was lost.
