Whirlpool Oven F7 — Function (Cancel) key stuck

Whirlpool Oven · Error code F7

What F7 Means

On older Whirlpool ovens that display only the family code, F7 means the control sees one of the function keys (commonly Cancel) as held down. It rejects further input.

Symptoms

  • F7 on display with no key pressed
  • Constant beep tone
  • Oven won't accept new commands

Common Causes

1
Stuck Cancel or function key on the keypad

Debris under the button or a failed membrane spot holds the contact closed.

2
Failed touchpad/keypad

Membrane has aged and one zone reads as permanently pressed.

3
Failed control board input

If a new keypad doesn't fix it, the input on the EOC has failed.

How to Fix It

  1. Kill power at the breaker for 1 minute and restore.
  2. Press each key on the touchpad firmly once and check for one that feels mushy or doesn't click.
  3. If F7 returns within a minute of power-up with nothing pressed, replace the keypad/touchpad.
  4. If a new keypad still throws F7, replace the electronic oven control board (clock assembly on older models).
