Frigidaire Microwave SE — Stuck key / Shorted membrane
Frigidaire Microwave · Error code SE
What SE Means
SE (Sensor Error or Stuck-key Error) means the control board sees a keypad button signal continuously, as if a key is being held down. Often caused by a failed keypad/membrane switch or moisture/grease intrusion.
Symptoms
- SE flashes on display
- Microwave beeps repeatedly
- Buttons unresponsive or one button triggers wrong function
- Unit will not start a cycle
Common Causes
Cracked or moisture-damaged ribbon under the touchpad shorts a key trace.
Ribbon between keypad and control board not fully seated, or oxidized contacts.
Less common — board misreads inputs even with keypad disconnected.
Over-the-range units near cooktop steam can short the keypad.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the microwave (or trip the breaker) for 5 minutes to clear the control.
- Plug back in — if SE returns immediately with no input, it is not a stuck button you pressed.
- Remove the control panel per the tech sheet and disconnect the keypad ribbon from the board.
- Power on briefly — if SE clears with the keypad unplugged, the keypad is the failed part.
- Reseat the ribbon if intermittent; replace the touchpad/keypad assembly if SE returns.
- If SE persists with keypad disconnected, replace the electronic control board.
