Frigidaire Oven F2 — Oven Over-Temperature

Frigidaire Oven · Error code F2

What F2 Means

The control sensed the oven cavity exceeded the safety limit (typically ~615°F bake / ~915°F clean). Heat is cut off immediately. This is a real safety event — find the cause before using the oven again.

Symptoms

  • F2 displayed mid-cook or during self-clean
  • Oven much hotter than the set point before fault
  • Burn smell or smoking

Common Causes

1
Welded bake or broil relay on the EOC

Relay contacts fused closed — element stays energized regardless of demand. Common after years of service. Safety critical.

2
Failed oven sensor reading low

Sensor under-reports, so the EOC keeps adding heat past the real target.

3
Short between sensor leads

Damaged harness fools the control.

4
Failed EOC

Control logic letting heat run.

How to Fix It

  1. Turn the breaker off and let the oven cool fully before opening.
  2. With power off, inspect the bake and broil elements for arcing or shorts to ground.
  3. Restore power briefly — if any element glows without a cook command, the EOC's relay is welded; replace the EOC.
  4. Test the oven sensor — ~1080 ohms at room temp; replace if out of spec.
  5. Do not return the oven to service until the over-temperature root cause is fixed.
