What 5b Means

Not an error code. '5b' (sometimes shown as Sb) on an LG oven display indicates Sabbath Mode is engaged: the oven runs at a fixed setpoint with display, lights, and audible tones disabled per Sabbath observance rules.

Symptoms

  • 5b or Sb shown on the display
  • Display does not change with normal button presses
  • Tones suppressed
  • Convection fan may not modulate

Common Causes

Sabbath Mode was activated by holding the right buttons

Owner or family member entered the mode intentionally or by accident.

How to Fix It

  1. Consult the owner manual for your specific LG range — the exit sequence varies (often hold Clock + a number key for ~3 seconds).
  2. On many LG models: hold the Clock pad until you hear a beep and 'SAb' or '5b' clears.
  3. If hold-to-exit does not work, turn the breaker off for 60 seconds; Sabbath Mode does NOT survive a full power loss on most LG models.
  4. Confirm normal display returns and reset the clock.
