F1E1 — Control Board Failure

The electronic control board has detected an internal fault and cannot reliably run the wash cycle. Common on Whirlpool-platform Maytag dishwashers (KitchenAid, JennAir share the board).

How to fix it

  1. Cut power at the breaker for 5 minutes to clear the latched fault, then test a Normal cycle.
  2. If it returns, pull the inner door panel and inspect the main control board (ACU) for burn marks, swollen capacitors, or corrosion.
  3. Reseat every connector on the control board, paying attention to the ribbon to the user interface.
  4. Check for water staining on the board — moisture means you also have a door or vent leak to fix.
  5. If the board is visibly damaged or fault returns after a reset, replace the ACU (part number printed on its label).
  6. After replacement, run Service Diagnostics to confirm no companion faults remain.

  • Failed main control board (ACU) Onboard relays or microcontroller faulted, often after a power surge.

  • Moisture intrusion at the door console Steam or leaks corrode control traces, producing intermittent F1E1.
  • Power surge / brownout Voltage spikes can latch the fault even though the board is otherwise healthy.
