Navien Tankless Water Heater E030 — Fan / Combustion Blower Fault

Navien Tankless Water Heater · Error code E030

What E030 Means

The combustion fan's RPM feedback is out of range — fan is not turning, turning too slow, or signal is lost.

Symptoms

  • Unit will not fire
  • Audible fan failure or unusual noise
  • E030 on display
  • Short cycle then lockout

Common Causes

1
Debris in the fan

Lint, insect nests, or dust binding the impeller.

2
Bad fan motor or bearings

Worn motor draws excess current or fails to reach commanded RPM.

3
Loose or corroded fan connector

Intermittent RPM signal to the PCB.

4
Blocked intake/exhaust

Restriction loads the fan and prevents target RPM.

5
Failed PCB fan driver

Board not commanding fan correctly.

How to Fix It

  1. Power off the unit and inspect fan blades for debris; clean gently.
  2. Reseat the fan harness at the motor and at the PCB.
  3. Check intake and exhaust pipes for blockage, water, or screens clogged with lint.
  4. Power on and listen — if the fan does not spin or is loud, replace the fan motor.
  5. If the fan spins fine with no obstructions, suspect the PCB.
