Whirlpool Dryer F3E2 — Moisture Sensor Failure

Whirlpool Dryer · Error code F3E2

What F3E2 Means

The control could not get a valid moisture sensor reading for several consecutive cycles. Auto Dry cycles will not end correctly. Often triggered by small loads or single items that never touch the sensor strips.

Symptoms

  • F3E2 on display
  • Auto cycles end too early — clothes still damp
  • Long runtimes on Sensor Dry with no completion
  • Repeated short Auto cycles

Common Causes

1
Sensor strips coated with softener

Conductive film on the two metal strips inside the drum interferes with reading.

2
Very small loads

Single items don't reliably contact the sensor strips, so the control gives up.

3
Dryer not level

Uneven tumbling keeps clothes off the strips.

4
Failed sensor harness

Broken wire or bad connector in the moisture sensor harness.

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the two metal moisture sensor strips inside the drum with rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth.
  2. Confirm the dryer is level front-to-back and side-to-side.
  3. Avoid Sensor / Auto Dry for single items; use Timed Dry instead.
  4. Power-cycle the breaker for 1 minute and try a normal-size Auto load.
  5. If F3E2 returns, access the sensor harness and check continuity / reseat connectors.
