F4E1 — Heater or Heater Relay Fault

F4E1 indicates a problem with the heater or the heater relays (the heater circuit). Per Whirlpool this is a general heater-circuit fault — it can be an open or a stuck relay or a bad element, so diagnose the heater circuit rather than assuming the relay is stuck closed.

How to fix it

  1. STOP USING the dryer. Shut off the breaker.
  2. Do not run again until the main control board is replaced — uncontrolled heat is a fire risk.
  3. Inspect the heating element and high-limit thermostat as well, but replacement of the main electronic control board is the fix.
  4. After replacement, verify Air Fluff / No Heat cycles produce no heat before normal use.
