E5E — Communication error between motor control and main board

The user interface / main control isn't talking to the motor controller. The washer can't run the drum without a working comm link.

How to fix it

  1. Unplug for 5 minutes — clears many transient comm faults.
  2. Inspect both boards for water staining or corrosion.
  3. Reseat all harnesses between main control and motor control.
  4. Measure DC bus voltage at MCU per service sheet.
  5. Replace MCU first; if code persists, replace main board.

Why it happens

Typical signs: No drum motion · E5E or 5E shortly after Start · Display alive but motor silent

  • Loose ribbon or harness between boards Connector backed out from vibration.
  • Failed motor control unit (MCU) Surge or moisture damaged the inverter board.
  • Failed main control board Comm IC on the main board no longer drives the bus.
  • Moisture intrusion at boards Leak from boot has soaked the MCU.
