Frigidaire Washer E66 — Heating element relay failure (steam/heated wash models)

Frigidaire Washer · Error code E66

What E66 Means

On models with an internal water heater, the main board detected the heater relay stuck or the heater drawing wrong current. The washer disables heating to prevent damage.

Symptoms

  • No hot water from heater
  • Steam cycle won't run
  • E66 mid-cycle
  • Breaker trips

Common Causes

1
Failed heater relay on main board

Welded or open contacts.

2
Shorted or open heating element

Element failed — typically reads 10-30 ohms when healthy.

3
Failed heater thermistor

Bad temp sense triggers overcurrent logic.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug and access the heating element (usually at the bottom rear of the tub).
  2. Measure heater resistance — open or shorted means replace.
  3. Test thermistor resistance against the service sheet temperature curve.
  4. If element and thermistor are fine, replace the main control board (relay welded).
