Generac Generator 1100 — Low Oil Pressure Shutdown
Generac Generator · Error code 1100
What 1100 Means
Engine oil pressure dropped below safe threshold and the controller shut the unit down to prevent catastrophic engine damage. The generator will not run again until the fault is cleared and oil level/pressure is restored.
Symptoms
- Generator started then shut down within seconds
- Red alarm light on Evolution/Nexus panel
- 1100 fault on display
- Won't auto-start on next utility outage
- May see oil drip under unit
Common Causes
Most common cause — consumption between services or a slow leak dropped oil below the pickup.
Cold-weather use with 5W-30 (synthetic) is required below 40F; thick oil in cold = false low pressure trip.
Switch on the block sticks open and reports zero pressure even when oil is fine.
Restricted flow at the pump intake collapses pressure under load.
On high-hour units (2,000+) bearing clearance can no longer build pressure at idle.
How to Fix It
- Set Auto/Manual/Off switch to OFF and pull the 7.5A controller fuse to safely disarm.
- Pull the dipstick — wipe, reinsert, and verify oil is between marks. Top off with the spec oil (5W-30 synthetic for cold, 15W-40 or SAE 30 for warm climates).
- Inspect under the unit and around the filter for leaks; replace filter if it has been more than 200 hours or 2 years.
- If oil is good, unplug the oil pressure switch (on the block) and ohm it — should be closed (continuity) with engine off. Replace if open.
- Reinstall fuse, clear the alarm (Enter + Off, then Auto), and run a manual exercise. Watch for repeat 1100.
- If 1100 returns with verified oil and good switch, call a dealer — likely worn bearings or oil pump.
