LG Oven F56 — Griddle overheat

LG Oven · Error code F56

What F56 Means

The griddle temperature exceeded the safety threshold (about 653°F / 345°C) for an extended period. The control shuts the griddle element off.

Symptoms

  • F56 or F-56 on display
  • Griddle was running on high for a long time before fault
  • Griddle dead until cleared

Common Causes

1
Welded griddle relay on cooktop board

Element stays on past setpoint.

2
Shorted griddle sensor reading low

Element ran wide-open because the board thought griddle was cold.

3
Empty griddle on max for too long

No food/oil to absorb heat.

4
Failed cooktop control board

Loss of temperature regulation logic.

How to Fix It

  1. Let the cooktop cool fully — do not retry while hot.
  2. Press CLEAR/OFF and cycle the breaker for 60 seconds.
  3. Avoid running the griddle empty on max; that condition alone can trip F56.
  4. If F56 returns under normal use, measure griddle sensor resistance (~1090 Ω at room temp). Replace if shorted.
  5. If sensor checks good and overheat repeats, the cooktop control board (welded relay) is the next replacement.
