F6E6 Minor Easy DIY

Whirlpool Dishwasher F6E6 — Incoming Water Too Cold

Whirlpool Dishwasher · Error code F6E6

What F6E6 Means

The thermistor reports incoming water below ~110°F. The dishwasher needs ~120°F at the inlet for proper detergent activation and cleaning.

Symptoms

  • F6E6 on display
  • Long cycle times as dishwasher tries to heat water
  • Poor cleaning / cloudy glasses

Common Causes

1
Water heater set too low or too far away

Heater set under 120°F, or kitchen is far from heater so hot water cools in the pipe.

2
Did not pre-run hot water at the sink

First fill is cold water sitting in the pipe.

3
Failed thermistor reading low

Less common; verify hot water actually reaches the dishwasher first.

How to Fix It

  1. Run hot water at the kitchen sink until it runs hot, then start the dishwasher.
  2. Set the household water heater to 120°F.
  3. Enable the Hi-Temp or Sani-Rinse option to let the dishwasher boost water temperature.
  4. If F6E6 persists with verified hot water at the inlet, test the thermistor per the tech sheet and replace the OWI/thermistor if out of spec.
