What Ed Means

On some models Ed indicates the cycle finished but the sensor moisture reading suggests the load is still damp — auto-cycle ended prematurely.

Common Causes

Coated moisture sensor bars

Fabric softener residue insulating the bars — most common cause.

Small load with sensor

Load too small to consistently touch the moisture bars.

Restricted airflow

Clogged vent causing early thermal shutdown.

How to Fix It

  1. Open the door and clean the two metal moisture sensor strips with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Stop using fabric softener sheets in the dryer (they leave residue).
  3. For very small loads, use timed dry instead of sensor cycles.
  4. Clean the lint screen and inspect the exhaust vent.
  5. Run a test sensor cycle to verify Ed clears.
