Amana Dryer F22 — Outlet Thermistor Fault

Amana Dryer · Error code F22

What F22 Means

Exhaust thermistor (outlet temperature sensor) is reading out of range — either open circuit or shorted. The control cannot regulate drying temperature.

Symptoms

  • F22 on display
  • Dryer stops mid-cycle
  • Clothes over- or under-dried
  • Sensor cycles end prematurely

Common Causes

1
Failed outlet thermistor

Resistance out of spec — typically should read ~10kΩ at room temp.

2
Lint-coated thermistor

Heavy lint coating insulates the sensor from airflow.

3
Wiring open to thermistor

Broken wire or unseated connector at the thermistor.

4
Failed main control

Less common — ACU input circuit failure.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer.
  2. Access the blower housing (usually behind the back panel) to find the thermistor.
  3. Clean lint off the thermistor body with a soft brush.
  4. Measure thermistor resistance with a multimeter — should be ~10kΩ at 70°F.
  5. Check continuity of the wires from the thermistor to the main control.
  6. Replace the thermistor if resistance is out of spec or open.
