What L2 Means

L2 indicates the dryer is missing the second 120V leg of incoming power. The drum may tumble but the heater cannot energize.

Symptoms

  • Dryer runs but never heats

Common Causes

Half-tripped 240V breaker

One leg of the double-pole breaker tripped; reset fully off then on.

Outlet wired incorrectly or one leg lost at the panel.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer.
  2. Fully reset the 240V breaker (push hard to OFF, then ON).
  3. Test the outlet with a multimeter: 240V L1-L2, 120V each leg to neutral.
  4. Remove the rear access cover and check that all three terminal block screws are tight.
  5. Replace the power cord if voltage at outlet is good but missing at the terminal block.
  6. Call an electrician if the outlet itself is missing a leg.
