How to fix it

  1. IMMEDIATELY shut off power at the breaker — don't just press cancel.
  2. Allow oven to cool fully before doing anything else.
  3. Do NOT use the oven until repaired — welded relays can re-ignite the elements without warning.
  4. Diagnose with a meter: with breaker on but oven off, the elements should have no voltage; if they do, the control has a welded relay.
  5. Test temperature sensor resistance at room temp (~1080 ohms).
  6. Replace control board (most likely) and/or temperature sensor.
  7. Strongly consider a service tech for this one — over-temp faults can cause cavity fires.

Why it happens

Typical signs: F9E0 displayed · Oven smells hot or burning · Smoke from cavity · Door may lock automatically · Heat continues after cancel

  • Welded relay on control board Bake/broil relay contacts stuck closed; element heats with no control — most dangerous failure mode.
  • Failed temperature sensor reading low Sensor drift causes control to overshoot actual temperature.
  • Failed control board Triac or microprocessor fault.
