SY EF — Evaporator Fan Circuit Failure

Control board cannot detect the evaporator fan motor running at the commanded speed — indicates a fan motor, wiring, or main control board fault on the freezer side.

How to fix it

  1. Unplug the refrigerator for safety.
  2. Remove freezer back panel and check for ice buildup blocking the evaporator fan blade.
  3. If iced over, force a defrost (manual defrost mode or 24-hour unplug) and address the root defrost fault.
  4. Spin fan blade by hand — should turn freely with no grinding.
  5. Check fan motor harness connector is fully seated and pins are not corroded.
  6. With power restored, use multimeter to confirm DC voltage at fan connector when compressor is running.
  7. If voltage is present and fan does not run, replace the evaporator fan motor.
  8. If no voltage at the connector, suspect the main control board.
