GE Refrigerator CC — Fresh-food temperature out of range

GE Refrigerator · Error code CC

What CC Means

Refrigerator (not freezer) compartment temperature has drifted above setpoint. Usually a damper, door, or thermistor issue — the freezer is typically still cold.

Symptoms

  • CC on display
  • Milk warm but freezer ice cream still hard
  • Damper not opening
  • Fresh-food fan not running

Common Causes

1
Damper assembly stuck closed

The motorized damper between freezer and fridge sections is jammed — cold air never reaches the fresh-food side.

2
Fresh-food thermistor failed

Reports a falsely cold value so the control never opens the damper.

3
Door left ajar

Even a slightly unsealed door will keep CC active until temps stabilize.

4
Blocked vents in fresh-food section

Tall items shoved against the back vent block the cold-air return.

5
Main control board

Last resort — board not commanding damper motor.

How to Fix It

  1. Re-check doors are closing fully. Clean gasket and let unit run 24 hours before judging.
  2. Pull items away from the rear vents in the fresh-food compartment.
  3. Remove the damper cover and confirm the damper door swings freely — replace the assembly if seized.
  4. Ohm-check the fresh-food thermistor against the GE spec curve (about 16 kΩ at 32°F).
  5. If damper, thermistor, and doors are all good, replace the main control board.
