Generac Generator 2680 — Wiring Error (Transfer Switch)

Generac Generator · Error code 2680

What 2680 Means

Controller detected an unexpected condition at the transfer switch — typically a wiring issue between the unit and ATS, or a stuck contactor. Generator will not transfer load until resolved.

Symptoms

  • 2680 fault
  • Unit runs but does not transfer to load
  • May see fault during first commissioning

Common Causes

1
Reversed or mis-landed control wiring

Common on new installs — 23 and 194 leads swapped.

2
Stuck transfer switch contactor

Mechanical contactor failed in one position.

3
Failed coil in ATS

Transfer coil open — cannot energize.

How to Fix It

  1. Verify control wiring at the ATS per the installation manual (typically terminals 23, 194, T1, N1, N2).
  2. With unit running in Manual, watch the ATS — should hear contactor pull in. If silent, coil or controller signal missing.
  3. Measure coil voltage at the transfer command; ~12-24VDC depending on ATS.
  4. Replace contactor coil or full ATS if mechanically failed (licensed electrician — this is live utility wiring).
