Generac Generator 2680 — Wiring Error (Transfer Switch)
Generac Generator · Error code 2680
What 2680 Means
Controller detected an unexpected condition at the transfer switch — typically a wiring issue between the unit and ATS, or a stuck contactor. Generator will not transfer load until resolved.
Symptoms
- 2680 fault
- Unit runs but does not transfer to load
- May see fault during first commissioning
Common Causes
Common on new installs — 23 and 194 leads swapped.
Mechanical contactor failed in one position.
Transfer coil open — cannot energize.
How to Fix It
- Verify control wiring at the ATS per the installation manual (typically terminals 23, 194, T1, N1, N2).
- With unit running in Manual, watch the ATS — should hear contactor pull in. If silent, coil or controller signal missing.
- Measure coil voltage at the transfer command; ~12-24VDC depending on ATS.
- Replace contactor coil or full ATS if mechanically failed (licensed electrician — this is live utility wiring).
