What CL Means
CL is not a fault. It indicates the Control Lock (child lock) feature is enabled, which disables the function buttons to prevent accidental changes. The lock persists across power cycles and must be turned off before the dryer will accept input.
Symptoms
- CL shown on display
- Buttons do not respond when pressed
- Cycle cannot be started or changed
- Lock persists after power off
Common Causes

Child Lock intentionally enabled
Someone held the lock button(s) for ~3 seconds and engaged the feature.

Lock toggled by accident
Kids or cleaning around the panel held the lock button long enough to activate it.
How to Fix It
- Identify the Child Lock / Control Lock button(s) on your specific model (often a key icon, or two buttons pressed together such as Dry Level + Dry Temp, or More Time + Less Time).
- Press and hold those buttons for 3 to 5 seconds until you hear a chime and CL clears.
- Turn the cycle dial to a valid dry cycle before pressing Start; on some models pressing Start without first selecting a cycle re-locks the buttons.
- If CL will not clear, unplug the dryer for 60 seconds and try the lock combination again.
