LG Washer vS (uS) — Vibration sensor fault

LG Washer · Error code vS

What vS Means

The vibration sensor reports excessive motion or has a wiring/contact issue. The washer slows or aborts spin to avoid damage. May show as vS, uS, or u5 depending on model.

Symptoms

  • vS, uS, or u5 on the display
  • Cycle stops during spin
  • Washer 'walks' across floor
  • Loud banging during high-speed spin

Common Causes

1
Unbalanced load

A heavy item like a single bath mat or bedsheet thumps to one side.

2
Washer not level

Leveling feet loose; one corner unsupported.

3
Shipping bolts still installed

New install — the four rear shipping bolts must be removed before first use.

4
Worn suspension struts or springs

Failed shocks let the tub thrash; high-mileage washers.

5
Loose or unplugged sensor harness

Connector backed off the sensor on the top of the tub.

6
Failed vibration sensor

Sensor module bad — replace.

How to Fix It

  1. Pause, open the door, redistribute the load evenly around the drum, restart.
  2. If new install: confirm all four rear shipping bolts are out (look for plastic caps in their place).
  3. Place a bubble level on top of the washer side-to-side and front-to-back; adjust the leveling feet until level.
  4. Push diagonally on the top corners — the unit should not rock.
  5. Pull the washer out, remove the top panel, and check the vibration sensor harness on top of the outer tub.
  6. Run a spin-only test with no load. Still trips = sensor or suspension issue.
  7. Replace the sensor; if vS persists, inspect suspension struts (typically all four together).
