How to fix it

  1. Power-cycle at the breaker: off for five minutes, then back on. A one-time memory read error can clear on a clean restart.
  2. If F4 returns, call an HVAC technician. The stored-parameter memory lives on the outdoor control board, and the fix is board-level.
  3. What the technician will do: confirm the fault and replace the outdoor control board, then verify the replacement is configured for your model. If your area had a recent lightning storm or surge, mention it — and ask about outdoor surge protection while they are there.
