F5 — Outdoor Fan Speed Out of Control
F5 means the outdoor fan motor is not running at the expected speed, so the unit cannot reject heat properly and protects itself.

How to fix it
- Power off at the breaker, then look at the outdoor fan through the grille: clear away leaves, snow, or debris around the unit, and check nothing visible is fouling the blades. Do not reach through the grille with fingers or tools.
- Power back on and watch the fan on the next run. If it never spins, spins slowly, or makes noise, note that for the technician.
- If F5 returns, call an HVAC technician — the fan motor and its connections are behind the cabinet panels.
- What the technician will do: check the fan motor, its connector, and its speed feedback, and replace the motor if it cannot hold speed. Delaying this risks bigger protection trips (the unit cannot reject heat without its fan), so book it promptly.
