6E (also 6C) indicates the ambient (external/room) air temperature sensor is open or shorted. It is not the freezer-evaporator defrost thermistor. Check the ambient sensor and its wiring.

How to fix it
- Unplug fridge and empty the freezer.
- Remove the freezer rear panel to expose the evaporator.
- Find the defrost sensor clipped to the coil; disconnect and measure resistance.
- Replace if open, shorted, or far out of typical range (~5-15kΩ at room temp).
- Inspect the harness back to the main PCB for damage.
- Reassemble and verify defrost completes normally.
