85 C — Samsung Refrigerator 85C — Low Voltage / Power Supply Error

On Samsung refrigerators, 85C indicates a low-voltage / low-compressor-voltage condition (a brownout, inverter-PCB, or power-supply problem). The board reports it, but the underlying fault is power/voltage-related — check the supply voltage and the inverter PCB rather than assuming a general board failure.

How to fix it

  1. Press and hold OK on the Family Hub display for ~3 seconds to clear the alert.
  2. Unplug the refrigerator directly into a known-good wall outlet (not a power strip or surge protector).
  3. Verify the outlet measures 110-125 VAC with a multimeter.
  4. Move any high-draw appliances to a different circuit.
  5. If the error returns repeatedly with good voltage, suspect the main PCB.

Why it happens

Typical signs: Display shows 85 C after a storm or outage · Touchscreen unresponsive · Cooling may continue or pause

  • Recent power surge or brownout Utility event tripped the under-voltage protection.
  • Shared circuit with high-draw appliance Fridge sharing an outlet with a microwave, space heater, or vacuum.
  • Failed surge protector / loose outlet Marginal connection dropping voltage at the cord.
  • Main PCB drift Rare — sensing circuit on the board has failed.
