Samsung Refrigerator 85 C — Low Voltage Detected
Samsung Refrigerator · Error code 85 C
What 85 C Means
On Family Hub models, 85 C means the main board detected an input voltage below spec — usually from a power surge, brownout, or shared circuit with a heavy load. The fridge protects itself by shutting down non-essential systems until voltage recovers.
Symptoms
- Display shows 85 C after a storm or outage
- Touchscreen unresponsive
- Cooling may continue or pause
Common Causes
Utility event tripped the under-voltage protection.
Fridge sharing an outlet with a microwave, space heater, or vacuum.
Marginal connection dropping voltage at the cord.
Rare — sensing circuit on the board has failed.
How to Fix It
- Press and hold OK on the Family Hub display for ~3 seconds to clear the alert.
- Unplug the refrigerator directly into a known-good wall outlet (not a power strip or surge protector).
- Verify the outlet measures 110-125 VAC with a multimeter.
- Move any high-draw appliances to a different circuit.
- If the error returns repeatedly with good voltage, suspect the main PCB.
