F7 Serious Moderate DIY

Whirlpool Microwave F7 — Appliance Control Board / Microcomputer Fault

Whirlpool Microwave · Error code F7

What F7 Means

The microcomputer (main control) reported an internal fault and the unit cannot execute the commanded function. Effectively a 'replace the board' code if it survives a power reset.

Symptoms

  • F7 on the display
  • Unit becomes unresponsive after the code
  • Code returns immediately after a Cancel press

Common Causes

1
Failed appliance control board

Most common — typical after a power surge or simple end-of-life.

2
Loose harness at the control board

Reseat connectors before condemning the board.

3
Wiring damage from heat or vibration

Inspect harnesses near the cavity top.

How to Fix It

  1. Power down at the breaker for 1 minute and watch for the code's return.
  2. Unplug the microwave (or breaker off), remove the cover, and reseat every connector at the appliance control board.
  3. Inspect the board visually for burnt components, swollen capacitors, or scorched traces.
  4. If F7 returns after reseating, replace the appliance control board. Order by your model and serial number.
  5. Don't replace the keypad for F7 — F7 is the main control, not the user interface.
