LOC Minor Easy DIY

Whirlpool Microwave LOC / Padlock — Control Lock Active

Whirlpool Microwave · Error code LOC

What LOC Means

Not a fault. The Control Lock (child lock) is on; the keypad will not respond and any press will beep an invalid-entry tone.

Symptoms

  • LOC, 'L', or a padlock icon on the display
  • Buttons beep but do nothing
  • Microwave will not start

Common Causes

1
Control Lock was enabled intentionally or accidentally

Usually a long-press on Cancel/Off or a specific number key per the owner's manual.

How to Fix It

  1. Find your model's Control Lock toggle in the owner's manual (most Whirlpool OTRs: press and hold Cancel/Off for 3 seconds).
  2. If you don't have the manual, try a 3-second press on Cancel/Off, then on the '0' or 'Tools' key.
  3. If the keypad won't respond at all to the unlock combo, power-cycle at the breaker for 1 minute and try again.
  4. Persistent LOC after a power-cycle and the correct unlock combo points to a failed keypad — see SE / F2E1.
