Amana Oven F4 — shorted oven sensor (legacy code)
Amana Oven · Error code F4
What F4 Means
On older Amana ranges (pre-Whirlpool platform), F4 indicates a shorted oven temperature sensor. The control disables heat to protect the cavity.
Symptoms
- F4 in display
- Oven won't heat
- Display may show wildly high temperature
- Bake/broil canceled
Common Causes
Internal short — should read ~1080 ohms at room temp; <900 indicates failure.
Wire chafed against sheet metal.
Input circuit failure.
How to Fix It
- Power off at the breaker.
- Access the sensor at the top rear of oven cavity; unplug it.
- Measure resistance — should be ~1080 ohms at 75F.
- Inspect harness for shorts to ground.
- Replace sensor; if good, replace control board.
