What F4 Means

On older Amana ranges (pre-Whirlpool platform), F4 indicates a shorted oven temperature sensor. The control disables heat to protect the cavity.

Symptoms

  • F4 in display
  • Oven won't heat
  • Display may show wildly high temperature
  • Bake/broil canceled

Internal short — should read ~1080 ohms at room temp; <900 indicates failure.

How to Fix It

  1. Power off at the breaker.
  2. Access the sensor at the top rear of oven cavity; unplug it.
  3. Measure resistance — should be ~1080 ohms at 75F.
  4. Inspect harness for shorts to ground.
  5. Replace sensor; if good, replace control board.
