Bosch Refrigerator E1 — Refrigerator Compartment Sensor Fault

Bosch Refrigerator · Error code E1

What E1 Means

The control board has lost a valid signal from the fresh-food (refrigerator) compartment temperature sensor (thermistor). Cooling control defaults to a fail-safe mode and temperatures may drift.

Symptoms

  • E1 shown on display
  • Fridge running too warm or too cold
  • Compressor cycling abnormally
  • Temperature setting will not hold

Common Causes

1
Failed fresh-food thermistor

Sensor reads open or shorted out of spec (should be roughly 5-30k ohms at typical fridge temps).

2
Loose or corroded sensor harness connector

Connector at the sensor or main board has backed out, moisture has corroded pins, or a wire is broken inside the insulation.

3
Damaged wiring in the door hinge or rear channel

Repeated flexing or a pinch during a prior repair can break a conductor.

4
Failed main control board input

Sensor input circuit on the PCB is damaged (less common than a bad sensor).

How to Fix It

  1. Press and hold the alarm/Mute button to silence; note the exact code shown.
  2. Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes to attempt a soft reset.
  3. If the code returns, locate the fresh-food thermistor (usually clipped to the rear evaporator cover inside the fridge cavity).
  4. Inspect the harness and connector for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins; reseat firmly.
  5. With the unit unplugged, measure thermistor resistance at room temperature against the spec in the tech sheet behind the kick plate.
  6. Replace the thermistor if out of range; if in range and wiring is good, replace the main control board.
