Bosch Refrigerator E20 — Defrost Drain Heater / Drain Blockage

Bosch Refrigerator · Error code E20

What E20 Means

Bosch uses E20 on some models to indicate the drain-heater circuit has failed or that water is backing up at the drain pan. Left alone it leads to ice on the freezer floor and water leaking onto the kitchen floor.

Symptoms

  • E20 on display
  • Water pooling under crisper drawers
  • Ice slab on freezer floor
  • Leak onto kitchen floor

Common Causes

1
Clogged defrost drain

Food debris freezes in the drain tube.

2
Failed drain heater (where equipped)

Heating element open.

3
Failed evaporator/defrost sensor

Triggers excessive water that overwhelms drain.

4
Drain pan misaligned

Water misses the pan and runs out the front.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the unit and remove the rear freezer panel.
  2. Manually defrost any ice on the floor and clear the drain hole with warm water.
  3. Flush the drain tube to confirm flow to the drip pan at the rear lower compressor area.
  4. Test the drain heater (if equipped) for continuity.
  5. Reinstall and run a forced defrost from service mode to verify proper drainage.
