Bosch Refrigerator E12 — Damper Control Fault

Bosch Refrigerator · Error code E12

What E12 Means

The air damper between the freezer and fresh-food sections is not moving to its commanded position, so the fridge side cannot get the right amount of cold air. Common in single-evaporator models.

Symptoms

  • E12 on display
  • Fridge warm, freezer fine
  • Fridge freezing food when damper sticks open
  • Clicking from damper area

Common Causes

1
Failed damper assembly motor

Stepper motor or wax-motor element failed.

2
Damper iced over

Defrost water re-frozen on the damper flap.

3
Disconnected harness

Connector at the damper unplugged.

4
Main control board damper driver failure

PCB cannot drive the stepper coils.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the unit and manually defrost for several hours.
  2. Locate the damper assembly behind the upper rear fridge wall.
  3. Remove and inspect for ice or debris on the flap.
  4. Test damper coil resistance per the tech sheet.
  5. Replace the damper assembly if it does not cycle on power-up.
  6. Replace the control board if a known-good damper still does not move.
