E62 — Heater Power Relay Fault

E62 indicates a fault in the power relay to the heater on the control board (the heater circuit/relay is not switching correctly), and the dryer forces a cool-down. (A heater relay stuck ON is more specifically E61; E62 is the broader heater-power-relay fault.) This is a control-board-level repair.

How to fix it

  1. Unplug the dryer immediately and let it cool — do not run it.
  2. Remove the rear panel and inspect heater assembly for visible coil damage.
  3. Measure heating element resistance to chassis; any reading other than infinite = replace element.
  4. Replace main control board (heater relay).
  5. Replace high-limit thermostat as preventive on a heat-runaway event.
  6. Verify normal heat cycling on test run.

Why it happens

Typical signs: E62 on display · Dryer extremely hot · Heater runs even on Air Fluff · Cycle ends abruptly

  • Welded heater relay on main control board Cannot interrupt power to heating element.
  • Shorted heating element to chassis Element coil contacting housing supplies constant heat.
  • Bad high-limit thermostat Failed closed, no backup cutout.
