Frigidaire Dryer E64 — Heating element open circuit
Frigidaire Dryer · Error code E64
What E64 Means
The dryer expects current draw through the heating element and sees none — either the element is burned out, a thermal fuse has opened, or there's a break in the heater circuit. Most common Frigidaire dryer code.
Most Likely Fix
Heating element open circuit
Tools: screwdriver, nut driver, multimeter
Diagnose first: Heating element coil broken. Check for clogged vent (root cause of most heater failures) and replace thermal fuse at the same time.

Symptoms
- E64 shown on display
- Drum tumbles but no heat
- Clothes still wet at end of cycle
- Cycle completes but cold
Common Causes
Open coil — most common cause. Element resistance reads infinite.
Usually a symptom of restricted vent; replace fuse AND clear vent.
Tripped from prior overheat.
Especially around drum contact points.
Electric dryer needs 240V — verify both legs hot at outlet.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the dryer.
- Verify 240V at the outlet (both legs hot to ground).
- Remove rear access panel.
- Measure heating element resistance — should be ~10–50 ohms. Infinite = replace element.
- Test thermal fuse for continuity — must read closed; if open, replace AND inspect vent.
- Test high-limit thermostat for continuity.
- Clean entire vent run from machine to exterior hood.
- Reassemble and run a heat test cycle.
