Keurig Coffee Maker Prime Error — pump cannot draw water
Keurig Coffee Maker · Error code Prime Error
What Prime Error Means
Shown when the brewer's pump fails to draw water from the reservoir into the internal tank — usually an air lock, blocked intake screen, or failing pump.
Symptoms
- 'Prime' or 'Not Ready' on display
- Pump cycles but no water moves
- No water dispensed after pressing brew
- Loud pump noise without flow
Common Causes
Common after running reservoir dry
Debris or scale blocking the small mesh at the bottom of the reservoir
Vibratory pump worn out
Pump sucking air instead of water
How to Fix It
- Remove the reservoir; clean the small intake screen at the bottom of the brewer with a clean toothbrush under warm water
- Refill the reservoir and reseat firmly
- Burp the unit: invert over a sink, tap the bottom firmly for 30 seconds, set upright and try again
- Run a water-only cycle to re-prime the pump
- If still failing, descale to clear scale from internal lines
- If no flow after descale + burping, the pump has failed and the brewer typically needs replacement
