LG Dryer E1 — Steam component fault (steam models)

LG Dryer · Error code E1

What E1 Means

On LG steam-equipped dryers, E1 (and the related E4) indicates a problem with a steam-cycle component — most often the steam generator, water valve, or related sensor. The dryer can usually still run non-steam cycles.

Symptoms

  • E1 on display when starting a Steam cycle
  • No steam produced during Steam Fresh/Refresh cycle
  • Normal cycles work fine
  • Water reservoir empties without effect

Common Causes

1
Steam water valve failure

Solenoid valve does not open.

2
Steam reservoir empty

Steam Fresh tank not filled to MAX with tap water.

3
Clogged water inlet screen

Mineral buildup blocks supply to the steam generator.

4
Steam heater / generator failed

Element open, calcium scaled, or sensor open.

5
Main control board fault

Steam output circuit failed.

How to Fix It

  1. Refill the steam reservoir with tap water (not distilled, not softened) to the MAX line.
  2. If plumbed to a water line, confirm the supply valve is open and the inlet screen at the dryer is clean.
  3. Run a Steam Fresh cycle and watch/listen for valve operation.
  4. Unplug and access the steam valve; test the solenoid for continuity per service manual and replace if open.
  5. Inspect and descale the steam generator; replace if heavily scaled or burned out.
  6. If E1 persists with known-good components, replace the main control board.
