LG Dryer EHE — Heater drawing excessive current
LG Dryer · Error code EHE
What EHE Means
EHE indicates the main board has detected abnormally high current draw on the heater circuit. The dryer shuts the heater down because excessive current can trip the house breaker, damage the relay, or pose a fire risk.
Symptoms
- EHE on display
- Heater relay clicking and code reappears
- House breaker has tripped
- Burning smell from inside the cabinet
Common Causes
Coil grounded to the heater box housing.
Relay contacts fused on the main control board.
Insulation chafed through near the element and shorting to chassis.
Sensor reads cold, board commands continuous heat.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the dryer immediately — do not keep retrying the cycle.
- Remove the rear/heater-box panel and inspect the element for visible short to ground.
- Measure element resistance to chassis with a multimeter — should be infinite; any reading to ground means replace the element.
- Inspect the heater harness from the element to the main board for melted insulation; repair or replace as needed.
- If element and wiring check good, suspect a welded heater relay on the main control board and replace the board.
- After repair, run a short Timed Dry and verify the breaker does not trip and EHE does not return.
