LG Dryer HS — Humidity (moisture) sensor fault

LG Dryer · Error code HS

What HS Means

HS indicates the moisture sensor strips inside the drum — used by Auto Dry / Sensor Dry cycles to detect when laundry is dry — are reading incorrectly. The dryer either over-dries or stops the sensor cycle early.

Symptoms

  • HS on display
  • Sensor Dry cycles end too soon with damp clothes
  • Auto cycles run far longer than expected
  • Code appears intermittently

Common Causes

1
Fabric softener film on sensor strips

Dryer sheet residue insulates the metal strips.

2
Dirty sensor strips

Lint and detergent residue coating sensors.

3
Open or shorted sensor wire

Wire from sensor to control board failed.

4
Failed main control board

Sensor input circuit failed on the PCB.

How to Fix It

  1. Open the door and locate the two thin metal strips on the inside front bulkhead, just below the lint filter slot.
  2. Wipe the strips clean with a cotton ball dipped in white vinegar or rubbing alcohol — never use sandpaper, which removes the protective coating.
  3. Air-dry, then run a Sensor Dry cycle with a small damp load to confirm normal operation.
  4. If HS persists, unplug and inspect the sensor wiring harness from the strips back to the main board for breaks.
  5. Replace the moisture-sensor assembly if a wire is broken or a strip is damaged.
  6. Replace the main control board only as a last resort if a known-good sensor still triggers HS.
