LG Dryer LE1 — Drum motor locked / not rotating
LG Dryer · Error code LE1
What LE1 Means
LE1 indicates the drum motor is locked or not rotating when the control commands it to. The board sees no RPM feedback within the allowed startup window and aborts to protect the motor and drive components.
Symptoms
- LE1 on display
- Brief hum then code
- Drum will not turn freely by hand
- Heavy load just before failure
Common Causes
Wet, oversized load exceeds motor torque limit.
Coin, bra wire, or small garment wedged at front seal.
Rear bearing locked up.
Motor windings open or start cap failed.
Damaged harness between main board and motor.
How to Fix It
- Unplug for 60 seconds, remove half the load, and retry.
- If LE1 returns, unplug and try to rotate the drum by hand — it should turn freely.
- Pull the dryer out, remove the top/front panels, and look for foreign objects at the front or rear of the drum.
- Inspect the drive belt, idler, and motor for binding.
- Test the motor windings for continuity against the service manual spec; replace motor if open.
- If everything is mechanically free and the motor tests good, replace the main control board.
