LG Dryer tE4 — Thermistor temperature out of range

LG Dryer · Error code tE4

What tE4 Means

tE4 indicates a thermistor reading outside its acceptable operating window — typically the condenser or secondary thermistor on heat-pump and hybrid models. The control aborts the cycle to prevent overheating or component damage.

Symptoms

  • tE4 on display
  • Cycle stops early with damp clothes
  • Error returns each cycle

Common Causes

1
Failed condenser/heat-exchanger thermistor

Sensor reads open or shorted.

2
Clogged condenser fins (heat-pump models)

Lint covers fins and skews temperature readings.

3
Wiring harness fault

Pinched or broken thermistor lead.

4
Refrigerant / compressor issue (heat-pump)

Abnormal heat-pump temps drive sensor out of range.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug for 60 seconds and hold Start/Pause 5 seconds.
  2. On heat-pump models, open the lower access panel and clean the condenser/heat exchanger per the manual.
  3. Locate the affected thermistor and measure resistance against the service-manual table.
  4. Replace the thermistor if out of spec, and reseat the connector at the main PCB.
  5. If tE4 persists after sensor replacement, schedule service — likely a sealed-system or compressor fault.
