Whirlpool Refrigerator CF — Communication Failure
Whirlpool Refrigerator · Error code CF
What CF Means
Communication failure between the main control board and the user interface (dispenser/display) board. Functionally identical to F6 E1 on newer French-door models; older side-by-sides show 'CF' instead.
Symptoms
- 'CF' on display
- Buttons unresponsive
- Display blank or scrambled
- Dispenser inoperative
Common Causes
Cable through the door hinge has chafed or unseated.
Dispenser PCB has failed on the comms side.
Main control's comms transceiver has died.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes.
- Inspect the harness from the door (or top hinge) to the cabinet — repair any chafed wires.
- Reseat the connectors at both the user interface board and the main control board.
- If wiring is intact, replace the user interface (dispenser) board first.
- Replace the main control board if a new UI does not resolve the fault.
