Whirlpool Refrigerator F3 E8 — Ice Box / Compartment Sensor Fault

Whirlpool Refrigerator · Error code F3 E8

What F3 E8 Means

A secondary compartment sensor (such as the ice box or convertible drawer thermistor) is reading open or shorted. The compartment may not hold temperature, and ice production can slow or stop.

Symptoms

  • Flashing 'F' on display
  • Ice production drops off or stops
  • Convertible drawer drifts off setpoint
  • Ice clumping in the bin

Common Causes

1
Failed compartment thermistor

Ice box or convertible drawer sensor has opened up.

2
Disconnected sensor connector

Harness unplugged after a panel was removed.

3
Ice damage to the sensor lead

Frozen water built up around the sensor and cracked the lead.

How to Fix It

  1. Power-cycle for 5 minutes.
  2. Identify which compartment uses sensor channel E8 in your model's tech sheet (often the ice box).
  3. Remove the relevant panel and locate the thermistor.
  4. Test resistance — replace if open or out of range.
  5. Reseat all connectors back to the main control board.
  6. If sensor and wiring are good, replace the main control board.
