F21 — Long Drain / Drain Error

F21 means the washer took too long to drain. The control board expected the water out within a set time and flagged a drain problem. Common on Whirlpool/Maytag/Kenmore front-loaders.

How to fix it

  1. Power off and unplug the washer.
  2. Open the front-bottom access panel, place a towel/tray, and open the drain filter slowly.
  3. Remove all debris from the filter and housing.
  4. Check the drain hose for clogs and kinks at the standpipe.
  5. Replace the drain pump if cleaning does not restore draining.
