LG Refrigerator Water Filter Guide (LT1000P, LT800P & More)
LG refrigerators (and many Kenmore models LG builds) use the 'LT' filter line. Picking the right one is just matching the LT number, and many LG fridges also use a separate air filter — but the water filter is the one that affects taste and ice.
Which LG Filter Do I Need?
The LT1000P (ADQ74793501, sometimes LT1000PC) is the current most-common filter on newer French-door models — it is the one inside the fridge that twists in. Older models use the LT800P (ADQ73613401), LT700P (ADQ36006101), or LT500P (5231JA2002A). Many Kenmore and Kenmore Elite fridges are LG-built and use the same filters. Match the LT number on your old filter or in the manual — they are not interchangeable.
Don't Confuse the Water Filter With the Air Filter
Many LG fridges also have a small 'Fresh Air' filter (LT120F) in the back wall — that one only handles odors, not water. The water filter is the larger cartridge near the top-right interior or in the base grille. Replacing the air filter will not fix bad-tasting water or weak ice; you need the LT-series water filter for that.
OEM vs Compatible, and How to Replace
Genuine LG filters run about $40-50; NSF 42/53-certified compatibles run roughly $15-25 and work well. Replace every six months or when flow drops. LG filters twist a quarter turn to release and install — no tools. Flush 2-4 gallons through the dispenser afterward (early cloudiness is normal), then hold the dispenser 'Filter' button about 3 seconds to reset the indicator.
