Amana Washer F4E1 — Heater Sensor Fault (Steam/Heated Models)
Amana Washer · Error code F4E1
What F4E1 Means
On models with a water heater (steam-capable front-loaders), the heater temperature sensor (thermistor) is reading out of range — open or shorted.
Symptoms
- F4E1 code
- Cycles using heated water/steam fail
- Cold rinse only
- Heated cycles default to standard temps
Common Causes
Thermistor open or shorted internally.
Harness at the heater connector backed out.
Wire chafed or pinched near the tub.
ACU thermistor circuit damaged.
How to Fix It
- Unplug washer.
- Access the heater (bottom of tub on most front-loaders).
- Reseat the thermistor connector.
- Measure thermistor resistance at room temp (typical ~50 kΩ at 25°C — check service sheet).
- Replace the heater/thermistor assembly if out of range.
- Replace the ACU only if a known-good sensor still reads as faulted.
