E9 — Door Ajar / Door Switch Fault

Bosch's official US refrigeration error-code page documents only three entries: E02 (icemaker/ice-water communication), E03 (dispenser UI), and a generic 'E or D' catch-all. A bare 'E9' is not separately documented. The 'door ajar / door switch fault' explanation below is not confirmed on Bosch's US consumer page — verify against your model's manual, or treat it per Bosch's generic guidance: power-cycle, and call support if it persists.

How to fix it

  1. Open and firmly close each door; verify the alarm clears.
  2. Check that bins, drawers, and stored items are not blocking the seal.
  3. Inspect the gasket for tears or compression set; replace if damaged.
  4. Locate the reed/plunger switch at the top of the door frame and test for state change with a multimeter.
  5. Realign the door magnet or replace the switch as needed.

Why it happens

Typical signs: E9 or door-open alarm · Audible beeping that will not stop · Interior light stays on with door closed · Excess condensation inside cabinet

  • Door physically not sealing Items inside blocking the gasket or a bin pushed out of position.
  • Failed/stuck door switch (reed or plunger) Switch no longer changes state when door closes.
  • Misaligned magnet (reed-switch models) Door magnet shifted out of alignment with the reed switch.
  • Worn/torn gasket Air leaks keep the cabinet from reaching setpoint.

Replace your water filter

A clogged or overdue water filter is a common cause of low water and ice flow on Bosch refrigerators — they are meant to be changed about every 6 months. The OEM-style filter that fits most Bosch refrigerators is the BORPLFTR10 ($60-75 OEM, $25-35 compatible).
