How to fix it

  1. Empty the freezer and remove the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator.
  2. Thaw any ice buildup with a hair dryer on low — protect plastics.
  3. Test the defrost heater resistance (typically 25-50 ohms).
  4. Test the defrost bimetal/thermostat for continuity when cold.
  5. Test the defrost thermistor at ~16k ohms at 32°F.
  6. Replace any failed component; if all check good, replace the main control.
